Biography
I was born in the Kansas, but Colorado is my home. I grew up in Denver, studied in Boulder and “stumbled” into the lending business in the summer of 1979. While visiting friends in California, I ran out of money before I ran out of summer, so… I took a receptionist’s position with Transamerica Mortgage. I enjoyed the Newport Beach area, but quickly became homesick, longing for the bright blue skies of Colorado. The manager who had hired me made arrangements for me to interview with Transamerica in Denver and I was hired as a loan originator.
Interest rates were 14%, I had no experience, no training, and my mistakes were many, but, I loved meeting new people, shared their enthusiasm about their new home, enjoyed finding the right loan for them and was determined to learn and improve my skills and service to my clients. I didn’t understand it then, but when I bought my first home at 22, my career path was set. My commitment to the lending business was solidified, because I understood personally, the profound impact that home ownership has in our lives. Having grown up in an entrepreneurial family, I knew that I wanted to work for myself, so it wasn’t long before I started my own business.
Many cautioned me when I formed The Mortgage Network, that I didn’t have enough capital but being the eternal optimist, I was not deterred. I knew that what I had was far more valuable than capital, I had happy customers who were eager to refer friends and family members to me. By the end of my 1st year in business, the company had acquired assets sufficient to obtain its FHA approval.
Since 1985 I have personally helped more than 2,800 families purchase a home or refinance their loan. I took a brief hiatus in 2003 when I met my future husband, Les and spent the next 2 years traveling between Santa Fe, NM (where Les owned a home and business) and Denver.
Happily, Les has joined me full time in Denver where we live in Cherry Creek North. I’m a bit of a “work-a-holic” but, when I am not thinking about business or my loans in process, you’ll find me happily ensconced in my kitchen, plotting and planning my next gathering for friends and family.
